Despite already being booked to make his 11th octagon appearance, Alex Pereira has welcomed any chance at a super fight with Dricus Du Plessis.
Since leaving the division for greener pastures, ‘Poatan’ has had his eyes on his old resting place at middleweight. ‘Stillknocks’ performances have demanded attention from the South American and the pair now look destined to collide in the cage one day.
Following his one-sided victory to retain the 185 lbs throne, Dricus Du Plessis took the opportunity to call out Alex Pereira while referencing a famous quote from the movie Troy.
“Since [Pereira] is standing directly across the octagon: ‘Is there no one else? Is there no one else?” Du Plessis said as he hinted at a future blockbuster clash against the Brazilian.
Catching wind of the call out, Alex Pereira and his coach have given their response to the UFC middleweight champion.
“Of course he doesn’t understand, he doesn’t speak English,” Pereira’s coach said. “[Pereira] came and asked me what happened. I told him [Du Plessis] basically challenged him.”
Pereira’s coach continued, detailing the two fighters meeting backstage once the dust settled on UFC 312.
“So, luckily we were walking down, Dricus had the belt, and Alex came to him and said, ‘I heard you called me out.’ He goes, ‘Yes.’”
“Alex says, ‘Make it happen at 205.’ Dricus looked, thought a little bit, and said, ‘Deal.’”
“So let’s see now if he runs back with his word, if he keep it up. Let’s see that super fight happen.”

Before any super fight can take place between the two, Alex Pereira has some unfinished business he has to deal with.
After years of back and forth, Pereira will put his title on the line against the surging Russian contender Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313 on March 8.
