Conor McGregor ‘for sure’ will fight in BKFC

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor‘s fighting future may be uncertain but the Irishman insists that he’ll eventually fight in Bareknuckle Fighting Championships.

“Yes. Yes. The warrior spirit burns strong inside me,” McGregor said during a BKFC press conference in Italy. “For sure. If you think I’m up here giving these speeches and leading these men into battle and I won’t step in there myself, think again. For sure. Conor McGregor will fight in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship – mark my words.”

McGregor has two fights left on his UFC contract.  Last August, he proposed a partnership between UFC and BKFC that would allow him an ‘exemption’ to fight in bareknuckle boxing.

“I would like maybe an exemption,” McGregor said at the time. “Maybe a joint partnership. Bare Knuckle/UFC. Similar to McGregor Sports & Entertainment and Mayweather Promotions.”

“Some sort of agreement where we can get busy, you know. I need to be busy. And right now, I’m working to get there,” continued McGregor. “So, let’s see what happens. Like I said, I have two fights left on the contract and it’s taking a minute. But, you know, patience is one of the most important skills a human being can possess.”

Eyeing a potential move to BKFC, McGregor had a few opponents in mind.

“There are many bouts, showcase bouts you could say. Michael Perry, Mike Perry. You could say Jeremy Stephens. You could say a rematch against Eddie Alvarez,” he said. “You could say many matches. But the lightweight title, who is the champion right now, lightweight or welterweight? Let’s see. I’m open. We’ll see when it comes.”
