UFC fighters mourn the death of George Foreman

It’s a sad day for combat sports fans around the world as news broke of the legendary George Foreman‘s passing on Friday.

Foreman was known for his destructive power inside the ring, scoring 89% of his wins by way of knockout. His career was filled with notable moments, but arguably his most memorable were his demolishing wins over Joe Frazier and his first-ever career loss which came at the hands of Muhammad Ali.

George Foreman will be remembered for much more than just the ability he showcased when lacing up his bright red boxing gloves. Positive messages have poured in from around the world since the news surfaced, with UFC fighters at the forefront to show their support for one of boxing’s true greats.

Daniel Cormier led the charge by sharing a personal message for a man he considers an inspiration to his fighting career.

“Rest easy big champ!” Cormier said after hearing of Foreman’s death. “Such a gentleman. The fact that he took time to train me is a memory I’ll cherish forever, a dream come true.”

Among those showing their love for the late George Foreman was Daniel Cormier’s bitter rival, Jon Jones. The UFC Hall-of-Famer simply wrote “Rest in Peace” on Instagram.

The ‘RIP‘ comments were flowing on social media with many upset by the news. UFC stars Terrance McKinney, Alan Jouban, and Billy Quarantillo were all fast to share their love for the legend.

One of the greatest fighters in the women’s side of mixed martial arts, Cris Cyborg, highlighted the aura George Foreman had.

“George Foreman was a cultural icon. A legend not only in boxing but in life, the type of aura that electrified a room when he walked into it.”

Dana White and Mike Tyson offered their condolences to Foreman’s family.

Known for his help in boxing’s recent resurgence, Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh shared some words on X after hearing of his unfortunate passing.

“Sad news for me and the boxing world,” Alalshikh said. “The last boxing pillar for an unforgettable era has passed away today. May his soul rest in peace, Big George Foreman!”

Jake Paul joined in on remembering Foreman for everything he did in his career both in and out of the sport.
