UFC 315 takes place on May 10 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Longtime UFC play-by-play announcer Joe Rogan will not be attending.
Rogan said during his UFC London podcast that he does not travel to Canada anymore. In fact, Rogan would rather ‘go to Russia’ than call an event in our Northern neighbor’s territory.
“I won’t be there,” Rogan said. “I don’t go to Canada anymore. I don’t. I’d rather go to Russia.”
Rogan stopped attending international events a while ago citing the extensive travel and time away from home. But not attending an event in Canada is more political than a travel burden. The U.S. and Canada’s relationship has soiled over recent tariffs. President Donald Trump has expressed interest in annexing Canada. Rogan doesn’t think that will ever happen.
“That’s never going to happen,” Rogan said. “That’s so crazy. Asked them to be the 51st state.
“I had a conversation with Trump about it. He goes ‘I started calling him Governor [Justin] Trudeau just for fun but a lot of people are saying good idea. Maybe it is a good idea!.’”
UFC 315 is headlined by a welterweight title bout between champion Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena. The event will be the fighter promotion’s eighth visit to Montreal but there first in a decade.
