Jean Silva: ‘Bryce Mitchell’s going to have some brain damage after this one’

Featherweight Jean Silva enters Saturday’s UFC 314 battle against No. 13 ranked Bryce Mitchell riding an incredible 12-fight winning streak. The Brazilian has the opportunity to debut in the rankings and pick up a high-profile win.

The two have had an interesting back-and-forth leading up to the fight. Silva brought a globe to the first UFC 314 Press Conference mocking Mitchell’s outspoken belief that Earth is flat. During Wednesday’s UFC 314 Media Day, Mitchell questioned Silva’s Christianity.

All the talk ends when the octagon door closes on Saturday at Kaseya Center, and Silva made a bold prediction. He believes that he’ll give Mitchell such a beating that “Thug Nasty” might retire afterward.

“He’s an excellent fighter. Listen, he’s fought Ilia Topuria. He beat Edson BarbozaDan Ige. Everything was going good until he got knocked out by Josh Emmett, and I think that really messed up his brain and his emotions and everything kind of went wrong,” said Silva.

“You can tell that he’s not looking at this the same way he used to look at it before. It just really messed him up.”

Silva plans to put a beating on Mitchell so bad that the Arkansas native never fights again.

“The fight’s going to go. He’s going to try to take me down. I’m going to defend it and I’m going to throw some shots at his head. Might knock him out in the first, in the second. We’ll see,” Silva said. “Maybe he’ll need to retire after this because he’s going to have some brain damage after this one.”
