Ben Askren in critical condition with severe pneumonia and staph infection

Ben Askren is currently fighting for his life in hospital after he was struck with a severe case of staph infection and pneumonia.

Askren is one of mixed martial arts brightest personalities, with his style of entertainment on the mic somewhat reminiscent of old school professional wrestling. While his time in the octagon didn’t produce the results he would have hoped, each outing the 40-year-old competed in under the ufc banner was a memorable one.

Alongside his career in the cage, ‘Funky’ was an elite collegiate wrestler. His college wrestling tenure saw him rake in a brilliant 153-8 record, making him the most decorated wrestler in University of Missouri history.

Despite retiring from combat sports four years ago, Ben Askren is now enduring the most difficult battle of his life. As confirmed by his wife on social media, Askren is in critial condition in the hospital after being hit with a severe case of pneumonia and a rumored staph infection.

“You may have heard that my husband Ben is going through something,” Amy Askren said. “He developed severe pneumonia which came on very suddenly.”

“He’s currently in the hospital and unable to respond to anything at this time. We welcome all prayers for healing and for peace.”

In what is undoubtedly a difficult time for Amy Askren and her family, she has revealed the next steps she will be taking as she prays for the best news possible surrounding her husband.

“We are trying to keep life as normal as possible for our children currently and doing our best to support them thoughtfully so please refrain from discussing it with them for now.”
