Dana White shares controversial opinion on Derrick Lewis’ 35-second knockout win

Derrick Lewis secured another stoppage on Saturday night, extending his UFC knockout record to 16. However, not everyone believes the fight should have been stopped.

It took ‘The Black Beast’ less than a minute to end Tallison Teixeira’s unbeaten streak last time out. The heavy-hitter landed a crushing left hand, sending the Brazilian down to the ground before following up with several unanswered shots, forcing Jason Herzog to bring an end to the action.

Once all was said and done at UFC Nashville, there were some minor complaints, but the vast majority of fans believed the fight was rightfully stopped. One man who is in the minority about the decision is Dana White.

White confirmed his belief that Herzog prematurely ended the heavyweight affair, as Teixeira looked to be getting back to his feet.

“A fight can turn with one punch,” White said. “Whoever lands that big shot, and they were both trying to land it, and he got him.”

“I thought the stoppage was a little fast, but you know, it is what it is.”

While he wasn’t a huge fan of the stoppage, White wasn’t shocked by how the fight played out.

“We kind of figured that fight would go like that, you know? I mean, the line on that thing was over/under five minutes.”

“It delivered. It was what we expected. It was what everyone expected. I don’t think anybody expected a five-round fight.”

The UFC CEO then gave Derrick Lewis his flowers.

“Listen, he’s been a fun guy since day one. He’s got a great personality, and he likes to knock people out; that doesn’t suck.”

A win over an undefeated titan like Tallison Teixeira would usually be the highlight moment of anybody’s night, but not for Derrick Lewis last weekend.

Lewis received a phone call from US President Donald Trump, who congratulated him on his victory and discussed some classified information during a post-fight phone call.
