Conor McGregor details Khabib Nurmagomedov brawl at UFC 229

The Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov saga had many memorable moments, but arguably none bigger than the post-fight brawl that erupted in the cage following their matchup.

In what can be considered the most anticipated fight in company history, the pair met at UFC 229 to much fanfare. It was the undefeated Russian taking on the sport’s biggest ever star, and it was a battle between two men with much hatred for one another.

After all was said and done, Khabib Nurmagomedov got his hand raised, but their bad blood continued. ‘The Eagle’ soared outside the octagon, attacking Dillon Danis, subsequently starting a brawl inside the cage with some of his team and Conor McGregor.

The clash was on show for everybody to witness, but McGregor has shared his point of view on the events at UFC 229 in 2018.

“So, what happened was, the fight was done, the match was done,” McGregor said. “[Khabib] climbed over the fence and jumped into the crowd.”

“As I jumped on top of the cage, his brother came sprinting across and jumped up on top of the cage also, to climb in and help him and join the fight.”

“I saw him there, it was like a Christmas present. He was right there, I just smacked him right in the eye socket. We started fighting on top of the cage.”

“It got broken up, so I backed myself up against the cage wall. Two of his teammates ran and jumped over right behind me. I got to a safe place, I was good. I got to a place where I was aware and I could see any oncoming threat.”

“The first one, a Chechen man, ran in front of me and went over to his brother, who got smacked. Then he turned back and saw me, but I had already seen him. So as he turned back, ‘Boom!’ I smacked him, he wobbled.”

“As I smacked him and rocked him, the final one was the original brother who was on top of the cage.”

“He broke free from the security, ran at 100 miles an hour towards me. He threw a right hand. As he threw the right hand, I threw a left hand, ‘Boom!'”

“There’s an image, an aerial image of the right hand just whipping past my face and my left hand just landing flush down the pipe. The final blow of the night. So, that’s it.”

Since that fateful night, Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s feud has only escalated.
