Lil Wayne supports Dustin Poirier’s epic retirement, straps belt on Max Holloway

Demonstrating the respect he has for both fighters, Lil Wayne valued the chance to support Dustin Poirier during his epic retirement fight, but also celebrated Max Holloway for his success in the UFC 318 headliner.

The musician, real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was originally set to put on a show for the fans as ‘The Diamond’ made his final walk to the octagon. Instead, the 42-year-old only accompanied his fellow Louisianan to the cage during his walkout.

While he didn’t get to live up to the original plan of his rumored involvement, Lil Wayne played a much bigger role throughout the UFC 318 event and beyond.

Dustin Poirier entered the octagon for the final time with a mashup of James Brown’s “The Boss” and Lil Wayne’s “Can’t Be Broke”, with the latter walking beside him to the octagon.

Despite not getting a fairytale ending to his career in mixed martial arts, Dustin Poirier put on an all-timer with Max Holloway.

As Holloway was announced the winner on the judges’ scorecards, Lil Wayne joined an exclusive list alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Mark Coleman, and inaugural champion Jorge Masvidal to present the BMF title to the winner.

Wayne was honored to do so, wrapping the belt around Max Holloway’s waist following his five-round war with Dustin Poirier on Saturday.
